Product Review - Cling Fishing Temperature Tape by Matt Chatani

I’m one of those guides/fishermen that keeps a detailed journal. If you asked, I could tell you the water flows, moon phase and everything in between for any given day I’ve spent on the river. Water temperature is one of the most important things I monitor. Last summer I bought the Cling Fishing Temperature Tape Stick-On Thermometer as another quick, and convenient way to check the water temp. This innovative stick-on thermometer is fully submersible, and it’s adhesive backed, giving you the flexibility to stick it to any hard surface.

I chose to stick mine on the handle of my boat net. Any time my net gets wet, be it dealing with a fish or using my net as a wading staff, I have a thermometer in the water ready to display a current temperature reading. That placement also made it easier to check sub surface water temps by reaching deep into the water with my net. It’s become my go to way to quickly grab the temperature when I’m wading, simply because it’s one less thing to pack. If I have my net, I have my thermometer. The adhesive is still holding strong.
Although the Cling Stick-On Thermometer lists temperatures in 4 degree Fahrenheit increments, a color coordinated display is easy to read and gives a more exact reading, typically within a degree of true. Personally, I prefer accuracy to the decimal point so I cross-reference with a more precise digital thermometer in some situations.
In any case, you can’t deny the convenience factor of the Cling Temperature Tape. I now have 3 of them dispersed between my boats and on a wading net complimenting the digital thermometer that hangs off the side of my boat at all times.
