March 1st, 2025 through April 8th, 2025 - Some orders shipped to the USA may be delayed this spring due to the ongoing tariff situation at the Canada/USA border
Until April 8th, Fish Tales has continued to send parcels to US addresses with the understanding that at the time of shipping there may be delays, tariffs on goods, and other unexpected circumstances outside of our control that might impact the delivery of parcels. From April 8th, 2025 onward, Fish Tales has temporarily paused all shipping to the USA. More Details
We understand that this is a complicated and challenging topic to stay on top of and while we don't have control over these circumstances, we stand in spirit and solidarity with our neighbors across the border who haven't chosen this but are nonetheless affected. Our hope is for a timely resolution, and with that resumption of normal cross-border shipping, but until that time we recommend carefully considering all of the factors before placing an order to a US destination from outside the USA. If you have ordered items before our shipping pause on April 8th, 2025 and are awaiting those items, or are wondering if you will be required to submit tariffs, please read on to learn how your order may be impacted.
What we know about what's happening:
- As of early 2025, the United States and Canadian governments have entered into a trade dispute resulting in the promise and placement of a shifting assortment of tariffs on goods traveling in both directions across the border
- Since the beginning of March we have seen a regular notice on the tracking for most of our parcels headed to the USA with the message "Delayed due to public authority Canada"
- "Public Authority Canada" refers to a Canadian governmental agency - In this case that is likely Canada Post and/or others that may be performing additional inspections or processing of items based on current events
- At this time of writing there is little information available regarding the exact nature of delays beyond our assumption that they are related to current events
- The duration of such delays is variable and outside of our control
- Items we offer online may be subject to tariffs for US customers depending on when they were ordered and what tariffs are in place at that time
What to expect if you have placed an order from Fish Tales to a United States address during this time:
- We have packaged and shipped your order as efficiently as possible, and have been mindful of completing proper customs documentation to the best of our ability
- Delays are expected and the regular service standards for delivery timelines provided by carriers is temporarily suspended
- Items ordered may be subject to tariffs placed by the current US administration on goods entering the USA
- Please stay informed - It is the responsibility of the parcel recipient to know and understand what tariffs may apply to goods ordered in addition to regular duties and taxes
- The parcel recipient is responsible for remitting payment of tariffs, meaning that an additional amount beyond any taxes or duties may be due at customs before a parcel can be collected
- The costs of shipping and processing parcels refused and returned for non-payment of tariffs or any other reason may be deducted from any refundable amount (Please be mindful when ordering that items not eligible for return, such as clearance items, do not qualify for refund or exchange in any circumstance)
If any uncertainty exists about potential tariffs on items that you have ordered, or there are concerns regarding a delayed parcel, we appreciate your understanding that there is very little we can do to mitigate these challenges. Thank you to those customers with orders in transit that have been affected, and to all our customers for your support.
