Early June Bow River Report

Early June Bow River Report

The Bow River is in good shape as we head into June. Flows have been consistent currently flowing at around 102 m3/s. Snow melt has been slow and steady with lower temps and the river should be in shape for a little longer. Now is a good time to get out while the river is still in shape. The Highwood River is running clear and flowing at 19 m3/s as of today. Find up to the minute flows at https://rivers.alberta.ca/

Bugs have been hatching and currently we have caddis, BWOs, and skwallas hatching with some fish looking up. Try giving your caddis a twitch if a dead drift doesn't elicite some action. Caddis in size 14 to 18 have been effective. Fish can be caught on streamers with fish being in buckets and moving in closer to the banks. Nymphing has also been productive, mostly in the deeper runs.

Short term weather forecast is showing rain and some cooler temps. Now is a great time to check on your rain gear give it some tlc with a DWR replenish, or come by the shop and check out our great selection of rain gear.

Some rainbow trout are still spawning. Be mindful of your impact on staging fish near side channels and the mouth of tributaries. Keep an eye out for redds and use caution when wading.
