Fall 2025/Winter 2026 Monday Night Tying Workshops

We're back on select Mondays for one-night tying workshops featuring popular patterns and techniques presented by guest fly tiers and familiar Fish Tales faces. Get a head start on filling your fly boxes for 2026 with this unique opportunity to learn from some of Calgary's best fly tiers. The $10 registration fee includes instruction and the materials for the evening - bring your vise, tools, thread and epoxy and tie along!
Sessions are hosted at Fish Tales Fly Shop and run from 7pm to 9/9:30 on the scheduled dates. Registration is required. Read to the end for what's coming up next on the session schedule - updates on the way!
UPCOMING SCHEDULE
October 20, 2025 - Saltwater Slam with Ray Rowland
Join Ray R for this session focused on his favorite patterns for grand slam species. We carry several of Ray's flies in the shop and have successfully fished them on recent trips to Cuba and Mexico.
November 3, 2025 - Gamechangers with Gideon
Learn to tie a gamechanger streamer during this session with Gideon. These articulated flies mimic the movement of baitfish. Gideon has done this session before - join us for a refresher or introduction to the pattern.
November 17, 2025 - Go-To Nymphs with Will
Will's signature pattern the Chai T has been a proven pattern on so many local rivers and lakes. Tie a few variations of this bug during tonight's session.
December 1, 2025 - Boobies and Blobs with Craig R
Craig will take you through the steps for creating and fishing boobies and blobs. These newer style patterns are great for lake fishing.
January 19, 2026 - Classic Patterns/Updated Materials
Some standard tying materials (like peacock herl) are getting harder to come by so manufacturers are constantly finetuning their synthetics offerings. In this session we will tie a prince nymph and a peacock leech two ways. These are both great patterns for our local waters.
February 2, 2026 - Dungeons with Gideon
Galloup's Sex Dungeon pattern has been a go-to for nearly a decade. Tonight's session will take you through the process of tying this proven pattern.
February 23, 2026 - Pike Patterns with Jarod Brown
Join Jarod for a session focused on flies for the toothy critters. Jarod is a local angler and accomplished tyer. This should be a fun nights of big flies.
March 2, 2026 - Favorite Foam Flies with Ray Rowland
We invited Ray to open and close our 2025/26 Monday night tying sessions. Join him tonight for a session focused on a couple of his favorite foam flies for Southern Alberta and South Eastern BC streams.
