Peacock Bass in the Amazon - 2027

Peacock Bass in the Amazon - 2027

Through a series of Google searches and small-world connections a few years ago I came across Bucket List Fly Fishing. Since then we've hosted two group trips with Bucket List and have had great experiences both times.

Our 2024 trip was an extremely unique opportunity! Out of discussions with Rob & Karim (partners at Bucket List Fly Fishing), we had the chance to be the second group of anglers -  out of a total of 5 groups for the season – to visit one of the least fished areas of the NW Amazon; the upper Xeriuini River and Rio Novo. No one had been there for five years!! Ultimately, the trip was one of the best trips we’ve ever been on! We only explored a small portion (50km of the more than 200km) of the area, and we didn’t even see the Rio Novo which is a tributary that is a whole other fishery. 2024 also happened to be year two of the worst drought in recorded Amazon history which is why the river was so low and had concentrated the fish. Looking back this was a warning! By the fall of 2024 things were dire in the Rio Nergo area (which the Xeriuini flows into). To see how the drought affected our 2025 trip read our trip report.

As a result Rob has negotiated a new agreement that is a game changer for fishing the Xeriuini and Rio Novo area. There will only be ONE camp (8 anglers) for the entire area. This means for the week that we have booked (second week of the 2027 schedule) there will have only been 8 anglers in the area. And if the Xeriuini is deemed unfishable there is a plan B which was used in previous years and turned out to be excellent!

If you would like to join Nancy and I for another week of exploration January 10-17 (Sunday to Sunday), 2027 you will still be one of the first anglers to show a fly to peacock bass that have never (or rarely) seen one before. In your angling life journey, you rarely get opportunities like this. The camp locations (it moves during the week) are set near 0° 0' 00” on the Equator in northwestern Brazil which only adds to the feeling of exploration! See Google Earth screenshot below.

Travel logistics have improved significantly as a result of WestJet flying directly to Panama from Calgary. This allows for easy connections to Manaus, Brazil. We can assist with travel arrangements. We typically arrive into Manaus on Thursday morning (with the Panama connection it looks like it will be Friday morning), which allows time for airline and luggage issues to be resolved (if any) and get acclimatized to the Amazon jungle. There are also multiple things to see and do in Manaus to add to your Amazon experience.

To take advantage of this opportunity please contact us ASAP. 5 spot left!
