South Africa Tiger Fishing - October 2027
Jan 25, 2026
Trip Date: Saturday, October 2 to Saturday, October 9, 2027

Imagine casting your fly to shoreline structure while being snorted at by hippos or watching elephants bathe. That's a possibility with this trip!
We've spent a fair bit of time over the past several months researching a tiger fish trip. This experience ticks all the boxes for the type of trip we were looking for.
Our destination will be South Africa's Nikwazi Lake Lodge on the Pongola Reservoir (Lake Jozini) fishing with Mavungana Fly Fishing. Check out this video that tells the story of how this guiding operation got started.

This unique experience is provided by South Africa's Mavungana FlyFishing which has been a staple on the South African fly fishing scene for many years. From various discussions with African anglers, the Pongola Reservoir kept coming up as the most consistent tiger fly fishing area in the southern portion of Africa.Lake Jozini is nestled within the Pongola Game Reserve offering one of the most distinct Tiger Fishing experiences for Africa's southern-most population of tigers. Fly Fishing and game viewing from a drifting boat while hunting tigers is a unique experience.
The timing of the trip relies on the prime windows of when Mavungana operates. From discussions with Jonathon, the owner, the best time for international traveling anglers, who hope for tiger fishing as well as good game viewing opportunities, is the Spring window (dry season). Which is August-October. We have put a hold on the date window of- Saturday October 2 to Saturday October 9, 2027. We can accommodate a maximum of 8 anglers for this trip.
For those wanting to go, it's time to commit for 2027. (2026 is completely booked already!). There were only two available weeks in 2027!! This program has become extremely popular amongst fly anglers from Europe.
