Fish Tales Fly Shop's After Hours Presentation Series is back! 

We will be hosting these seminars outside of our regular store hours on the first Wednesday of the month from November through June. Watch here and on our social media feeds for updates on upcoming events. 

In-store presentations are free. First ones in get the chairs. 

Unless otherwise noted sessions will start at 7 p.m. and last for up to 2 hours.   

Wednesday, December 3, 2025 -  Winter Fishing tactics for the Bow River. This session will focus on tactics for fishing from shore. Much of what will be discussed is useful for all seasons. 

Wednesday, January 8, 2026 - Lake fishing tactics with Craig Robillard. Join Craig for this session focused on all things lakes. Craig will focus on a variety of topics that could include sink tips, multi-density lines, rod and fly selection, quick-release indicators, and more. Craig will cover topics such as:

  • Trout Needs
  • Gear
  • Aquatic Transportation
  • Fishing Depth, Speed and Retrieve
  • Fish Food in Lakes
  • Fly Tying

Wednesday, February 4, 2026 - Join us at Prairie Dog Breweries for a tying night focused on nymphs for southern AB streams. This off-site event is registered and has a small cost. This is part of our four-nights of tying at Prairie Dog - check out our event lineup here

Wednesday, March 4, 2026 - Ask us anything (fly fishing) with Fish Tales staff. Fish Tales staffers fish a lot - at home and away. This night will allow attendees to direct the discussion. Dave and Nancy have participated in a couple of these sessions during the Oldman Brewery fishing festival. Come prepared to ask questions - participation welcome! 

Wednesday, April 1, 2026 - Streamer Fishing From Shore  This seminar will discuss various streamer tactics applicable to all rivers but with a focus on techniques, gear, and flies for the Bow and Southern Alberta rivers.  

Wednesday, May 6, 2026 - Pike on the Fly with Jean Ducharme. Come to this session to learn pike tactics from someone who fly fishes Alberta pike more than almost anyone else we know. Jean will touch on fly selection, gear, leader, tippets, habitat structure, water temperatures and other key ingredients to help you be successful fly fishing for pike. Whether you're just getting started in fly fishing for pike or wanting to up your game in search of trophy fish this session is worth attending.

Wednesday, June 3, 2026 - Bankside bugs with David Blair is the final event in this series of our After Hours Presentations. Join David at Bankside in Fish Creek Park, He'll demonstrate a kick sample and help identify what's in the sample. This event should elevate your nymph ID skills and help you understand what's going on below the water.
