Mark your calendars to join us on Monday, March 24 for two presentations by renowned fly fishing photographer Brian O'Keefe.
Brian will start the night with his presentation on "Fly Fishing Photography for Anyone With an iPhone/Smart Phone"
From Brian: "This presentation is on fly fishing photography tips. No high tech, professional speak, just useful tips on taking better photos with your iPhone. We all share photos now, and/or post photos on social media, or give fly club presentations, or just brag to your friends. I will show you dozens of easy and simple ways to take great looking pictures. I emphasize being fast and easy on the fish. I’ll cover the most important features on your phone and easy tricks that will impress all your friends. I’ll cover waterproof options and almost all my tips apply no matter what kind of camera you use. Besides a lot of easy to understand, useful information, my example photos are from all over the world, with nice fish, scenery, action, etc.
I encourage everyone to have their phones handy, as we will all be doing some ‘hands-on’ photos at this presentation."
These cover shots were all taken with an iPhone.
This session will be followed up with his presentation on "My Favorite Fish"
From Brian: This presentation is a colorful and fun look at my favorite fish. Some of those would be tarpon, steelhead, big brown trout, roosterfish, golden dorado, peacock bass, permit and more.
We are going to a look at a lot of cool places, near and far. I will take everyone to Alaska, Chile, New Zealand, The Bahamas, Cuba, Iceland and a few more. Besides some very interesting photos, I’ll add some fishing info, seasons, tackle, etc. Besides this being quite entertaining for hard-core fly fishers, many non-anglers enjoy the scenery, beautiful landscapes, etc.
Brian has combined a lifetime of fly fishing photography with a lot of serious fly fishing.
He published his first fly fishing photo 54 years ago at age 16. During his more than five decades in the industry he has fished, photographed, and traveled to destinations like Cuba, Tonga, Bikini Atoll, New Zealand, Chile, Argentina, Kenya, Sierra Leone, Kashmir, England, Brazil, Nicaragua and many more.
As much as he loves the travel he also loves spending time on home waters. He moved to Bend, Oregon in 1975 and guided on the Deschutes, North Umpqua, and California's Klamath river in the late 1970's. He currently lives in Eastern Idaho, near the South Fork of the Snake River, the Teton River and the Henry’s Fork. He says: "Fly fishing is a great lifestyle!"
Throughout his fly fishing photography career Brian has worked with numerous fly fishing magazines, tackle companies, and websites, and is co-owner of Catch magazine.
