The past week of hot weather has changed things up a bit on the Bow. Stoneflies are still around but less prolific. We are hearing hopper activity along the banks. We are seeing healthy hatches of caddis most evenings and sometimes throughout the day. Brown drakes, craneflies, pmd's have also been reported.
The river has cleared up nicely although it continues to be impacted by rain/hail events upstream and in Calgary. Flows are averaging out at around 170 cms in Calgary. The Elbow is dropping and clearing below the reservoir. Fish Creek and the Highwood are contributing clear, warmish water to the main stem of the river.
Fishing has been a little less consistent over the past week although fish are still being caught. Hopper(larger dry)/dropper, deep nymphing, and streamer fishing continue to be effective are all working.
Flies to try:
Dries: True Goldenstone, Skid Bitch, Yeti hopper, More-or-less hopper, Kurt's hopper, Bloom's Parachute caddis, Swisher's Dancing Caddis, Jake's Hi-vis CDC caddis, PMD, Adam's, Staton's Everything Dry
Nymphs: BT leech, peacock leech, jimmy legs, Smethurst stone bomb, prince nymph, copper john, hare's ear.
Streamers: Streamers have been productive the last couple of days with white being the hot color. Try a black and white clouser, white gartside, skiddish smolt, Galloup's dungeons.
Happy Fishing.
