Join us for the first ever Lefty Day this coming May 17th - A nationwide day to honor the life, legacy, and impact of Lefty Kreh. We’re excited to be the only fly shop in Canada to be a part of Lefty Day, an international celebration recognizing one of fly fishing’s most influential figures.
Whether you’re a lifelong angler or just getting started, Lefty Day is a chance to share stories, learn something new, and celebrate a legend who helped shape the sport we love. Stop by the shop, bring a friend, and join us for a great day of free demos, casting tune-ups and an exclusive screening of the new Lefty Kreh Documentary before it is released. Documentary show time is 5 p.m. on Saturday, May 17; show runs for 45 minutes.
Fly Shop owner David Blair shares just how special it is that we are participating in this day and how the Fish Tales legacy is intertwined with the legacy of Lefty Kreh -
A note about the personal relationship Nancy and I had with Lefty - In my first year of "professional" guiding in 1993 I got to spend a week with Lefty in my boat (at Scott Lake Lodge), just he and I! It was an unbelievable experience for a young guide and we got along really well. The following year 1994, Nancy was also working at the lodge when Lefty returned with Flip Pallot to film the first fresh water episode of Walker's Cay Chronicles. So I was extremely lucky again - not only to have two fly fishing icons in my boat but also to get to put together a TV episode. We flew out together in mid-July when Nancy and I got married in 1994. Lefty wrote us a beautiful note about his long time marriage. We stayed in touch, and Lefty helped us when we started Fish Tales. He introduced us to many key players in the industry to help get us on our feet in a brand new retail business. He was very gracious with his knowledge over the years as the shop grew. I try to share my knowledge as he did. Nancy and I are proud to host Lefty Day as he was a very important person during the start of our career in the fly fishing business. Thanks Lefty. "All the best wishes" is how he always signed his letters, as our original communication was before email! I am excited to see this new movie about Lefty.

Details and Activities for Lefty Day include:
- Gideon will be tying Lefty's famous fly patterns - Half & Halfs and Lefty's Deceivers - throughout the day
- David and the casting team will be on-site for casting demos/tune-ups as requested between 11am and 4pm
- After hours in-store exclusive screening of the new movie Lefty: The Greatest of All Time - Watch the Trailer
- Movie is free, with donations accepted for the Bonefish Tarpon Trust.
- Movie starts at end of business day (between 5 p.m. and 5:15) and runs for 45 minutes.
- Watch a fly tying demo, fine tune your cast, attend the film - Participate in any of these events and enter your name to win prizes from Renzetti, Scientific Anglers, Rio, and Fish Tales.
