Level One Fly Tying Course - Fall 2025 and Winter 2026
Interested in learning to tie flies? Not sure where to start? Fish Tales has been helping new tiers start their journey into the world of fly tying and our dedicated team is ready for the upcoming fall and winter with three new Level One Tying Sessions perfect for beginners.
Our Level One Fly Tying Course is designed to provide new tiers with the skills needed to sit down at the vise and tie most flies.
In this course you'll learn the key fundamentals of fly tying, including but not limited to:
- Vise and Tool Use
- Proportions
- Material and Hook Selection
- Proper Finishing Techniques
Our Level One sessions are one evening per week for five weeks. Classes start at 7 pm and run for about 2 hours. Courses are offered in-person at Fish Tales Fly Shop in our fly tying space.

Fall 2025 Course Dates:
Session 1 - Tuesdays - October 21st and 28th, November 4th, 11th, and 18th
Winter 2026 Course Dates:
Session 1 - Tuesdays - January 27th, February 3rd, 10th, 17th, and 24th
Session 2 - Tuesdays - March 3rd, 10th, 17th, 24th, and 31st
Course Cost: $120 instruction fee - vise, tools and materials not included

- Students are responsible for providing all materials and tools
- Classes start promptly at 7 pm - Please visit the shop to purchase any necessary supplies prior to your first class
- Materials kits for flies tied in this course are available in-store
