After Hours Seminars - November 2026 through June 2027

Fish Tales Fly Shop's After Hours Presentation Series is back! 

We will be hosting these seminars outside of our regular store hours on select Wednesday nights between November and June. Watch here and on our social media feeds for updates on upcoming events. 

In-store presentations are free. First ones in get the chairs. 

Unless otherwise noted sessions will start at 7 p.m. and last for up to 2 hours.   

Wednesday, November 4, 2026 - Fly Fishing the Bow Top to Bottom 

A couple of Fish Tales staffers will lead this discussion focused on everything Bow river related. Whether you're new to the sport and trying to figure out how to nymph, or a seasoned Bow river angler wanting to increase your knowledge with some new ideas on effectively fishing the Bow this seminar will be worth attending.

Discussion may include:

  • Hatch overview
  • Nymphing tactics
  • Dry fly as an indicator with a second fly; nymph or small dry
  • Streamer fishing
  • Gear selection 

Wednesday, December 2, 2026 - Local tier focus with Ty Tarvyd of Doghouse Flies

Join us for this night focused on innovative ties for bull trout, kokanee, big browns and more. Ty is an accomplished tyer from the Calgary area who will be sharing some of his ideas and patterns for larger streamers for trophy fish.

Wednesday, February 3, 2027 - Lake fishing tactics with Craig Robillard. Join Craig for this session focused on all things lakes. Craig will focus on a variety of topics that could include sink tips, multi-density lines, rod and fly selection, quick-release indicators, and more. Craig will cover topics such as:

  • Trout Needs
  • Gear
  • Aquatic Transportation
  • Fishing Depth, Speed and Retrieve
  • Fish Food in Lakes
  • Fly Tying

Wednesday, March 3, 2027 - Passion for Pike with Jean Ducharme  

This session will focus on fishing Alberta's reservoirs for pike. Jean is passionate about fishing for these toothy critters and explores several reservoirs each spring and fall. Fishing for pike is a great option to expand your opportunities particularly early and late in the season.

Jean will touch on fly selection, gear, leader, tippets, habitat structure, water temperatures and other key ingredients to help you be successful fly fishing for pike. 

Wednesday, April 21, 2027 - Fly Fishing the Amazon for peacock bass and other species with David Blair Aside from wading the flats the Amazon is at the top of Dave's list for fly fishing destination experiences. He's been fortunate to visit the Amazon several times to target peacock bass, wolf fish, arapaima, and more. 

Join David for this presentation focused on the Amazon watershed as a fishing destination. 

Wednesday, May 5, 2027 - Fish Tales Annual Ladies Night Join us after hours for an opportunity to familiarize yourself with the shop, meet some of our team, take advantage of in-store learning stations, and more.

  • One on one casting tune-ups

Wednesday, May 19, 2027 - Bugs of the Bow with David Blair and Gideon Bennett  Bankside bugs is an on-river session dedicated to helping folks understand the bug life below the surface. Join David and Gideon at Bankside in Fish Creek Park, He'll demonstrate a kick sample and help identify what's in the sample. This event should elevate your bug ID skills and help you understand what's going on below the water.
