|Fish Tales is excited to announce our return to the South American jungle and peacock bass fishing! David has been a few times to the Amazon and is truly excited to visit a new place and experience all it has to offer. David has been watching the development of a recently opened fishery in Columbia with Afloat Adventures.|
The rivers that have opened are tributaries of the Amazon’s “little sister” the Orinoco in Colombia. Specifically, the Tomo and Gavilan Rivers in the remote eastern plains area of Colombia. The jungle is very concentrated along the riparian areas, compared to the surrounding savannah. This tends to concentrate the birds and wildlife near the water making for unique viewing opportunities, which in David’s experience adds so much to a peacock bass trip.
Fishing in peacock bass areas offers so much more than fishing but the fishing is really why we go - the Chiclids (Peacock Bass) species we are able to target are: "3 different for Peacock bass (Temensis, intermedia and orinocensis) those are the predominant specie to catch, arowana, shovelnose catfish, red tail catfish, piranha and occasionally in some spots of the river vampire fish”
The area also offers:
“…amazing wildlife observation like tapir, orinoco caiman, lots of different birds, capybaras and this year we finally spotted 2 jaguars crossing the river.”
The trip is based out of Medellin, Columbia and includes two nights (one on each end of the trip) accommodations at the Hotel Ibis (currently using), ground transportation, internal flights, meals and accommodations on the water, and a true unique adventure in the jungle. There have been several videos and articles written about this location “pre-pandemic”. This is an excellent value trip for Peacock Bass. See all the details here.
